History
Torfaen Jazz Society was formed in 1996 to promote and raise interest in Jazz and its relative forms within the Borough of Torfaen. TJS also creates a greater awareness of live jazz by offering a performance platform for local musicians. An active committee oversees the interests of the Society within a written constitution. Membership is currently £8.00 per annum, student membership is £5 and OAP membership is a staggeringly low £2!!! If you are interested in supporting live music and gaining Pontypool a deserved place on the musical map, please join and enjoy the opportunity of contributing positively to the Society. Torfaen Jazz Society committee meetings are held on the first Monday in the month, usually at 7pm. The AGM for all members and elections of officers is held in May. The Venue The Society's HQ is at Sebastopol Social Club, Wern Road, Griffithstown, NP4 5DU (Turn off Station Road opposite Panteg Steelworks). This offers an intimate friendly atmosphere and the whole club has undergone recent refurbishment. Visiting musicians say this is one of their favorite venues, having an enthusiastic, knowledge and friendly audience. The Drinks Very Important! Out hosts offer a super selection of real ales, all offered at low prices. The club has won several CAMRA awards at local and national level. Normal ales, lagers, wines and soft drinks also available. The Music The music is very eclectic mixture to ensure that all forms of jazz are covered, from traditional to contemporary, modern to blues - and everything inbetween. The best local talent are featured on a regular basis, with big name visitors also making an appearance. So, if you like jazz or if you are curious to find out more, please join us one Friday in the near future - you are sure of a warm welcome. |
