As always there is a varied programme, representing the best the jazz scene has to offer. Past events.
Confirmed dates are:

3rd July- Oleg Kireyev & Willie Garnett The great Russian Sax star visits the club along with London's top-rated tenor player and band leader Willie Garnett.  Kireyev, from Ufa, in the Urals has been a visitor to JITP and Birmingham Jazz Festivals over the years and has established himself as a hard swinging player with an eclectic style embracing all era's from the 20's through to John Coltrane. Willie has run his big band in London for years and was a frequent visitor to JITP in its heyday. The John Gibbon Trio with Phil Mead and Dave Moses provide the rhythm section that recently played behind Art Themen. "Absolutely wonderful stuff"- 'Alf' Ford, " it was knockout, some of the best stuff I've seen up there"- Adrian Powell (Borough Blues Club).

10th July- Dave Jones/Dick Hamer Quintet.

After a long absence from the South Wales area whilst ploughing the East Anglia, London and SE scene, pianist Dave Jones has returned to his home and become in constant demand for his articulate and sensitive accompaniments as well as leading his own trio. Dick Hamer is one of South Wales' leading tenor players and educators and teams up with trumpeter Ceri Williams for the first time in 20 years when they formed 2/3rds of the horn section in Cardiff funk band Tangent. The quintet is completed with Cardiffs O'Connor brothers on bass and drums.

17th  July- The Whiskey River Boys Duo

Aidan Sheehan (harp) and Marty Blake (guitar, slide guitar) from The Whiskey River Boys hit the club for some southern states Louisiana and Cajun Blues and Harp style pickin' and blowin'.The track 'Depression Blues'by the pair is included in the soundtrack to a new movie produced in Wales, Avoiding Christian Bale. Aidan will also be giving a workshop on the Saturday morning following the gig, 18th July. Entry is open to all interested musicians and non-musicians and will cost a nominal £3 for entry.

24th  July- Mike Britton & Bill Lynn

Mike Britton is simply one of the finest guitarists in the UK, his pedigree is impeccable with stints at The Dorchester, The Hilton, Lancaster Gate, The Embassy Club & The Playboy Club leading him to back some of the best-known singers of the late 60s & 70s; Vince Hill, Frankie Vaughan, Matt Munro etc. He then spent a period working all over Europe and the States then came back home teaching and tutoring at Dartington College. He has extensive radio and TV credits and played with everyone from Tal Farlow to Jamie Cullum. Double bassist Bill Lynn rocked the club on his last visit as a member of Ceri Williams' quartet with his supreme mastery of the instrument.

31st  July- Dick Pearce

The legendary Dick Pearce is  appearing at Torfaen's Jazz club on July 31st. After Jimmy Deuchar,  arguably the greatest of the post-war modern British trumpet players, the man most deserving of the title of heir to the throne is probably Dick Pearce. His influences include Chet Baker, Art Farmer and Don Cherry- an eclectic bunch which perhaps underpin Dick's often poignant and fragile, but beautifully lyrical playing, and equally ferocious but coolly controlled hard bop. His long association with Ronnie Scott (14 years) produced an all-too rare recording Never Pat A Burning Dog(1990) which features Dick as perfect foil to Ronnie's more straight ahead tenor work. His quartet recording Big Hit(1994) also contains notable solo work. Dick has influenced a whole generation of British trumpeters including Gerard Presencer and Guy Barker and his place among the true greats of UK jazz is without question. He is backed for this short local tour by the fabulous Rod Kelly trio with Wayne Elliot on bass and Roger Powell on drums. (notes by C Williams with acknowledgement to Simon Spillett).
