- an iconoclastic ensemble based in Cardiff.
Formed in 1984, the Heavy Quartet are still going strong, regularly playing numerous clubs and festivals throughout Britain and Europe. Crowd pleasing favourites at Brecon jazz, they have the distinction of being the only band to have performed every year since the festivals inception 20 years ago. Membership of the band, which has fluctuated through the years, currently stands at 8 musicians.
Constantly evolving, the Heavy Quartet have released a number of critically acclaimed albums. Their latest album MACHINE illustrates the bands interpretation of what could perhaps be called jazz. It is a funky collection of grooves, mixing a big brass sound with intricate improvisation.
A group that shuns the common labels, the Heavy Quartet represent vibrant musical irreverence and unpredictable eclecticism.

Tonight we will be in for a very lively performance of top draw Gypsy Jazz by Hot Club Gallois featuring Heulwen Thomas on electric violin.
Hot Club Gallois are yet another class outfit to grace the TJS Club stage at Panteg House. There is a definite clue in the bands title that their music has a French (or more particularly a Parisian) theme. They are not wrong. From the moment they strike their first chord, you will almost feel the breeze from passing boats that sail down the Seine. Bravo Bravo.
